Twweeeettt!

OK. I’m obsessed. Or in the language of the 12 Steps, “I admit I am powerless over Twitter and that my life has become unmanageable.”

Here’s another article, in the Wall Street Journal, about Twitter “going mainstream.” The most interesting fact was Zappos.com using Twitter as a corporate communication system. That they are training employees on its use belies the claim that Twitter is easy to use.

Here’s the rub in Twitter, IMHO. Simple microblogging at 140 characters a Tweet is easy. Compact. Finite. As as way to shout out and have followers hear, it’s straightforward. Training has not been a user need.

BUT assembling followers or strategically following, tying messages together thematically and creating a fulsome conversation is not just a shout out. As Twitter superimposes uses and features on its simple interface, complexity will follow and easy use disappear. This is not bad, but is a change. And we all know about change.
