Ryman Auditorium in Nashville
This week, I am attending the Americana Music Conference and Festival in Nashville. Progressive Marketing connection? Myself and my 40-year hobby, writing and performing songs. I’m just across from the “Mother Church” of Americana Music, the Ryman Auditorium. It’s the birthplace of bluegrass and the original theater home of the Grand Old Opry (after it got too big for the studios of WSM in the 1920’s). Clearly, the building represents a confluence of influences and a touchstone in our popular music past. In fact, it will be no surprise to any of you that history is a huge part of the city of Nashville’s self-proclaimed Music City USA title.

More on that later, but next a word on the genre (or maybe it’s an anti-genre) Americana. There’s a lot of talk at the Festival about it, but I saw a comment in a review of the Americana Music Association Awards Show I liked about the whole idea of music genres being silly.
SO, I’m here to learn about marketing in a completely new setting: music. And to see if my music can be part of this corner of the industry. I’ll let you know how it goes.
