When I was in the Boy Scouts,
camping was a respite from a chaotic household...until my dad joined the troop as
Assistant Scoutmaster so he could be "closer to me." Still, the beauty,
independence and fellowship of camping trips stayed with me, even through three wretched
summers through Canada while my father towed my family and a Shasta camping trailer for
two weeks at a time.
